Light & Color
Date
Spring 2026
Project type
Light & Color Exploration
School
University of Colorado Denver
The course aimed to provide me with knowledge about light as a phenomenon and as
a visual stimulus, along with the effects of colors and natural or artificial light in an
architectural context. In this course I learned to observe light and color everywhere
around myself and incorporate them into my drawings and designs. It explores the
properties of color and light, including discussions on types of lighting, metamerism, the
color rendering index (CRI), light reflectance value (LRV), and how these factors
influence design decisions. In this course I was able to understand and apply principles and theories of light and color in relation to environmental impact and well-being. This course develops an eye for
color and studies fundamental color theory. It trained my eyes to develop a visual understanding of color and the principles of design through guided observation and engaging activities. It also takes a practical and integrated approach to the study of lighting and design, covering principles of lighting, the design process, and lighting design applications.
